During your CAP year, youll take courses that have been approved for transfer to UT Austin. Students take 3 courses (minimum of 9 credits-option of up to 11 credits if necessary). That means that if you complete the program successfully, youll return to UT Austin with at least 30 hours of transferable coursework. In such cases, your GPA will be calculated using your other27 hours,and you must earn at least a 3.2 GPA on those 27 hours of coursework. Basically, you need to go to another UT school (Arlington, Dallas, El Paso, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, Tyler) for your freshman year for the CHANCE at going to Austin. As a CAP student, these colleges are aware that you are not fully committed to their university. They do not advise on UT Austin majors. At the UTSA campus alone, Tsacalis reports that the CAP population is somewhere between 800 and 1000 students. From what I have heard, UT won't necessarily make you a priority in comparison to these other applicants even if you're participating under CAP so you will have to maintain a competitive GPA, Resume, and provide strong essays if applicable. Students who attend UTSA to fulfill their CAP requirements to transfer to UT Austin will have to attend UTSA for summer, fall and spring. Our surveys indicate that 98% of CAP students are satisfied with the guidance they receive at UTSA, Tsacalis said. Earn at least a3.2 cumulative grade point averageon the coursework that you complete. Can any student choose to be a part of CAP? It is worth noting that some people who were in CAP applied to other majors outside Liberal Arts and still gained admission (most of what I saw were people in CAP applying for schools such as CNS, Moody, and some Cockrell; this is still risky so I don't recommend doing this). What does this mean and what should I do? One thing I am unsure of though is if you're allowed to change your major via internal transfer admission after gaining admission via PACE.
