1911 slide stuck closed

I am not referring to the turning of the barrel nut, rather the removal of the nut after it has been turned to the proper location. WillM When I went to rack the slide it came back about a 1/4". i then installed the grips and went to rack the slide again so i could make sure the thumb safety wasn't sticking but the slide wouldn't open.
